Frank Roelandt was a four-year baseball letterman and two-year basketball letterman at Oregon State College. He was a 1949 All-Coast baseball selection after leading the Northern Division with an incredible batting average of .508. He also led the league in hits, was second in runs, and third in runs batted in. He received the Victor Brown Trophy (team MVP). His four-year batting average was an impressive .387. Roelandt's basketball career included being a member of the 1947 "Thrill Kids", a team that won the NCAA Western Regional and competed in the NCAA Tournament in Kansas City. Roelandt turned down a chance at professional baseball for the head basketball coaching position at Medford High School. He took the Black Tornado to 18 state tournaments; winning one title and finishing second three times. He concluded his career with 492 victories.
