Lew Beck, a native of Pendleton, Ore., was a 1947 All-American, All-Pacific Coast, and All-Northern Division honoree at guard. At the time of his graduation in 1947 he was the team's all-time leading scorer (820 points). He led Oregon State to its first-ever NCAA Tournament in 1947. Beck scored 20 points each in tournament games vs. Oklahoma and Wyoming. He led the team to 65 overall victories, including a 28-5 record in '47. He helped OSU to a 4-0 record vs. Oregon in '47. Beck also was part of Oregon State history as the first team to travel by plane.
He concluded his career with 1,304 points (12.1 avg.), 396 rebounds, 351 assists, 67 blocked shots, and 199 steals.
Beck captained the 1948 U.S. Olympic Team, leading the Stars and Stripes to a gold medal.
He was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame 1981 and was in the first class of the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
