
No. 17 Women's soccer falls to UC Irvine 1-0

IRVINE, Calif. - The 17th ranked Oregon State women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season at the hand of UC Irvine Friday night at Anteater Stadium.
Oregon State (5-1-1) outshot the Anteaters 11-to-6 in the game but was unable to find the back of the net. Senior Courtney Wetzel took a game high five shots with three coming on goal. Wetzel had a look late in the match but her shot was saved by Anteater keeper Danielle de Seriere who finished the game with six saves in the game.
The Anteaters' (7-1-2) lone goal came in the 78th minute off the foot of Mar Rodriguez who shot the ball which took an unfortunate deflected off of a Beaver defender for the deciding goal.
The Beavers made a late push with five shots in the second half, four coming on goal but all four were saved. Anteater keeper de Seriere moves to 7-1-2 on the season with Oregon State junior keeper Colleen Boyd moving to 5-1-1.
The Beavers stay in Irvine, Calif. to take on UC Riverside Sunday starting at 11 a.m. PT in their final game of the Anteater Invitational. The Beavers are 2-0 all-time against UC Riverside, getting a 2-1 victory on the road last season.
