
Beavers Shutout Pacific 2-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State Women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season Friday night when it defeated Pacific 2-0 in the first game of the University of Oregon Nike Tournament in Eugene, Ore.
"It was a physical game and was truly a battle," Oregon State women's soccer head coach Linus Rhode said following the match. "There wasn't a lot of soccer being played out there so we took our chances when we could and we'll take the goals when we can get them."
The Beavers outplayed Pacific in just about every category. The Beavers (2-0-0 overall) outshot Pacific (2-2-0)13-7 and recorded five corner kicks to none by Pacific. Eight of Oregon State's shots came on goal and Pacific keeper was able to save six.
Oregon State got on the board late in the second half, in the 78th minute, when junior team co-captain Brittany Galindo recorded her first collegiate goal in a non-exhibition match. Galindo redirected the ball off of a free kick from fellow team co-captain Courtney Wetzel.
Wetzel was in on the action again in the 85th minute when Melinda Ingalls got her first goal of the 2010 season when headed the ball into the back of the net off of another Wetzel free kick. With her two assists, Wetzel recorded her 11 and 12th career assists.
With its second win, Oregon State picked up its second shutout of the season thanks to junior keeper Colleen Boyd who is perfect on the season.
The Beavers will he back out on the pitch Sunday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. to take on UC Davis back down in Eugene.
