Oregon State Swimming Finishes Final Day of Arena Invite

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State swim team completed the final day of competition at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach Calif. today. The Beavers participated in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out competition.
Jenni Dole and Erica Brannon both qualified for the 200-yard backstroke finals with their times of 2:00.57 and 2:02.73, respectively. Dole's time of 2:00.57 was the eighth fastest time in the preliminary round out of 71 swimmers.
Dole finished fifth out of 32 athletes in the finals for the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.06. Her time was fast enough to earn herself an NCAA “B” cut in the event. She currently holds the school record in this event with her time of 1:55.64 from the 2010 season.
Shelby Webber, Ocean Trail and Allison Gillespie all qualified for the 100-yard freestyle final with their performances in the preliminary round. Webber's time of 50.31 in the preliminary round was the sixth fastest time out of 105 swimmers and moved her into third place on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
Webber finished fifth overall out of 32 athletes that qualified for the final round in the 100-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 49.85 which awarded her second place on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list and an NCAA “B” cut time.
Crystal Kibby has qualified for the finals of every event she has competed in this weekend, and nothing changed today when she qualified for the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.71. That time gave her an NCAA “B” cut and it put her in second place on the all-time top-10 list for Oregon State.
Kibby finished in sixth place overall out of 32 swimmers in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her time of 2:14.26 earned herself an NCAA “B” cut time. She also placed herself in second on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
Rachel O'Brien won the preliminary round for the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.19. O'Brien received another NCAA “B” cut with her performance today and was just a second short of beating her career best time of 1:56.17.
O'Brien finished second overall in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.68. She had already secured herself an NCAA “B” cut time with her preliminary performance.
Melissa Myers placed 11th overall out of 57 swimmers in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She finished the event with a time of 17:02.36. Her time today pushed her into sixth place on the Oregon State all-time top-10 list.
"This is a great weekend for Beaver swimming and I am very proud of all of our results," head coach Larry Liebowitz said. "We have set ourselves up for a great year."
The Beavers return to action when they compete at the Husky Invite Friday Dec. 2. The event is a three-day event which will take place in Federal Way, Wash.
