
Beavers Rack Up 16 Top-Fives at Husky Invite

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – In a large three-day event featuring scores of teams, the Oregon State swimming team acquitted itself well by scoring 16 top-five finishes in relays and individual events. Senior Ocean Trail led the way with three top-fives in her individual events while being a part of all five relay teams that placed in the top five.

Her three solo places came in the 50-yard freestyle (third, 23.46), the 100-yard butterfly (second, 54.70) and the 100-yard freestyle (4th, 50.62). Among the relays, she helped the 400-yard medley to a fourth-place finish (3:46.80) and 200-yard medley to a third place (1:44.91). Junior Crystal Kibby joined her on those relays while adding two top-five solo finishes. She won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.99 and placed second in the 400-yard version with a time of 4:21.44.
The Beavers' other win came from freshman Sammy Harrison. She won the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:37.06 while adding a second place showing in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:52.36. Harrison also joined in on a third place in the 800-yard freestyle relay and a fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Fellow freshman Amani Amr was the fourth Beaver to earn multiple individual top-five finishes over the weekend. She grabbed hers with two third places in the backstroke events, swimming 55.87 in the 100-yard and 2:01.96 in the 200-yarder. Amr also helped her teammates to top-five marks in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays.
Junior Aya Fujimura came in fourth place in the 200-yard butterfly and joined in with two top-fives in the relays. Senior Ivette Dailey-Deaton rounded out the individual top showings with her third-place effort in the 200-yard butterfly. In the other top-five relay, the Beavers finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. Seniors Carrie Kelsey and Amanda Rose and junior Erica Brannon joined Trail on that team.
The Beavers return to action against Arizona, Northern Arizona and New Mexico State in Tucson, Ariz. on Jan. 4.
