Swimming Finishes Day Two of Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Oregon State swim team finished the second day of competition today at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. for the Pac-12 Championships. The Beavers competed in the 500-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley.
Crystal Kibby and Shelby Webber both qualified for the finals of the 200-yard individual medley and notched NCAA consideration times. Webber finished the preliminaries with a time of 2:01.51, while Kibby turned in a season best time of 2:00.74.
"Crystal continued right where she left off in the dual meet season with a great swim in the 200-yard individual medley," head coach Larry Liebowitz said. "She made the provisional time and her best events are coming up on Friday and Saturday."
In the finals of the 200-yard individual medley, Kibby placed 19th overall with a time of 2:00.80. Webber finished just three spots behind Kibby in 22nd with a time of 2:01.84.
"Shelby was also very good in the 200-yard individual medley and should have a very good 100-yard backstroke performance on Friday," Liebowitz said.
Rachel O'Brien, Maggie Hanson, Aya Fujimura, Erica Brannon, Hannah McCulley, Marisa Warman and Ivette Dailey-Deaton also competed in the 200-yard individual medley. While it was the first time for O'Brien to compete in this event during this season, Fujimura, McCulley and Hanson all finished with their fastest times this season in the event.
Dakota Bloch, Delise Batiza, Melissa Myers and Amy Herbst all competed in the 500-yard freestyle, but were unable to qualify for the finals. Bloch finished with a time of 5:00 and Batiza finished a few places behind her with a time of 5:06.03, which was a season best time.
The Beavers had 14 competitors in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle. Allison Gillespie and Jenni Dole came away with the two best times for the Beavers. Gillespie finished with a season best time of 23.76 and Dole finished with a time of 23.16.
Oregon State finished the day by competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Dole, Ocean Trail, Gillespie and O'Brien finished in eighth place overall with a time of 1:33.05, which was the second fastest time for the Beavers in that event this season.
"The overall performance was very good and our best days are going to be Friday and Saturday," Liebowitz said. "We will finish very strong."
The Beavers are currently in eighth place and will return to action tomorrow when they compete in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard backstroke.
