Swimming Defeats Northern Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State swimming team defeated Northern Arizona this afternoon, 147-146, in a quad dual that also featured New Mexico State and Arizona. The Beavers were narrowly defeated by New Mexico State, 148-142, and also lost to Arizona, 218-69.
The Beavers used 12 top-five individual performances on the day to score win, with junior Crystal Kibby accounting for three of those. Her best finish came in the 200-yard breaststroke (third, 2:21.09), and she also had strong showings in the 100-yard breaststroke (fifth, 1:05.55) and the 200-yard individual medley (fourth, 2:08.47).
Freshman Sammy Harrison added two second-place marks in a pair of freestyle events. Her time of 5:00.78 in the 500-yarder and 10:15.06 in the 1000-yard event were both good enough to earn runner-up finishes.
Fellow freshman Amani Amr and junior Aya Fujimura each had a second and fourth-place finish. Amr came in second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.80 while earning fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (58.68). Fujimura's places came in butterfly races. She was second in the 100-yard (57.24) and fourth in the 200-yarder (2:07.02). Senior Ivette Dailey-Deaton came in second in that 200-yard fly with a time of 2:06.35.
Amr and Kibby joined senior Ocean Trail and junior Erica Brannon with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Trail, Harrison, senior Carrie Kelsey and Constance Toulemonde placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Beavers next travel to BYU on Jan. 18 and Utah on Jan. 19.
