Harrison Takes First in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Sophomore Sammy Harrison finished first in the 1650 freestyle, as the Oregon State swimming team closed out its fall campaign Saturday at the Las Vegas Invitational. Harrison recorded a time of 16:19.81, reaching an NCAA B Standard.
Senior Crystal Kibby placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a finals time of 2:15.72, reaching an NCAA B Standard. Classmate Aya Fujimura took sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:03.90), followed by freshmen Brooke Meyer in 10th (2:04.77) and Jesikah Cavanaugh in 36th (2:10.57).
Sophomore Amani Amr placed ninth in the 200 backstroke (2:00.09). Freshman Taylor Frank took 44th in the event (2:15.90), while classmate Kelsey Yates finished 46th (2:20.04). Freshmen Czsarina Isleta (2:20.66) and Andrea Young (2:23.48) finished behind Kibby in the 200 breaststroke, taking ninth and 11th, respectively. Freshmen Maranda Alf-Huynh took 15th (2:26.71), while Chelsea Chan finished 17th (2:22.45) and Alice Ochs placed 21st (2:27.76) to round out the event for the Beavers.
Harrison completed her fall season with a 23rd-place finish in the 100 freestyle (52.95). She was followed by Anni Hecker in 43rd (52.68), Young in 44th (52.76), Sophie MacEwan in 47th (52.81) and Constance Toulemonde in 48th (52.82).
The Oregon State team of Young, Amr, Kibby and Harrison placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.04.
As a team the Beavers finished fifth, with 282 points. Oregon State will return to action Jan. 3, when it travels to Arizona.
