OSU Swimming's Harrison Wins 500 Freestyle at UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior Sammy Harrison stayed undefeated in the 500-yard freestyle for the 2015-16 season with a win in the event against UCLA and UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon.
Harrison clocked a time of 4:58.66 to edge out UCLA's Sandra Soe (4:59.15) en route to a victory in the 500-yard freestyle. Saturday's win marked the Henderson, Nev. native's fifth win in the event this season and ninth individual victory overall.
Sophomore Noemie Midrez also placed in the top-five in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:21.18.
Harrison opened the meet with the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing second with a time of 10:17.71. The senior freestyler had won the 1,000 in the four previous meets this season before Saturday's second-place finish.
Final dual scores were 175-82 in favor of the Bruins, and 180-76 in favor of the Gauchos.
Junior Brooke Meyer was the Beavers' next-highest finisher, placing third in the 100-yard fly with a time of 58.62. Freshman Megan Lam followed her in the event in fourth (58.92), while junior Jesikah Cavanaugh and senior Constance Toulemonde tied for fifth (59.68).
Oregon State also recorded a third-place finish in the 400-yard free relay, as the foursome of Toulemonde, junior Andrea Young, junior Anni Hecker and Harrison finished in 3:35.93.
Junior Czsarina Isleta recorded a trio of fourth-place finishes, clocking times of 1:06.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke, 2:22.57 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 2:11.65 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Rounding out the Beavers' top performers were sophomore Corrine Shigeta, who clocked a time of 2:13.28 in the 200 IM to place fifth, as well as senior Amani Amr, who registered a time of 2:04.65 to finish in fifth in the 200-yard backstroke.
Following this weekend's action, the Oregon State swimming team will take a week off before returning to action against Pacific and Fresno State on Saturday, Nov. 7. The meet from Stockton, Calif. is set to begin at 11 a.m. PT.
