Corvallis, Ore. – Oregon State led for nearly 82 minutes before Oregon rallied for a 2-1 victory at Lorenz Field on Friday in the women's soccer edition of the 2015-16 Civil War Series, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores.
It was the final game of the season for the Beavers (6-10-3, 2-9-0 Pac-12). It was also the last game at OSU for goalie Melanie Trumbull, defender Gwen Bieck and midfielder Amanda Tewes, departing seniors who were honored in a pregame ceremony.
Playing for the first time this season and for just the third time in her career, Trumbull had six saves, several of the outstanding variety. However, Oregon (6-13-0, 3-8-0) penned the Beavers in their defensive end for much of the second half and finally broke through with the tying goal at 81:59 and the winner at 85:19.
The Beavers zipped ahead 1-0 at 28:22 on a header by sophomore midfielder Kayla Latham. Freshman Allison Pantuso started the play with a right-to-left cross to junior midfielder Annie Govig; she lofted a perfect pass into the 18-yard box that Lathan headed home for her second
Latham, junior midfielder McKenzie Redberg and sophomore forward Nikki Faris had shots for OSU. Faris nearly tied the game in the closing minutes but Oregon goalie Halla Hinriksdottir deflected a header by Faris with a diving save.
