
Benzin Leads Beavers at Dick McGuire Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Oregon State women's golf team is in 17th place after the opening day of the Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday with 18 holes remaining.
The Beavers, playing in their first tournament of the season, played 36 holes shooting a 20-over 312 in the first round at the par-73, 6,315-yard Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico and a 29-over 321 in the afternoon.
Stanford built a commanding lead after carding an 18-under 281, 285--66, while Northwestern is second with a 6-under 578.
Freshman Olivia Benzin led the Beavers on day one after a pair of solid rounds, carding a 3-over 76 in the morning and a 6-over 79 in the afternoon. She sunk one birdie in each round, with those coming on the par-5 14th and the par-4 15th holes. She enters the final day of play in 66th place.
Sophomore Haley Nist is just behind Benzin in 72nd place with an 11-over 77-80--157, senior Ashlee Pickerell in 78th with a 13-over 79-80--159, sophomore Hannah Swanson is 95th with an 18-over 80-84--164 and senior Chelsea Saelee is 99th with a 20-over 84-82--166.
Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford holds the clubhouse lead with a 6-under 140 while four golfers are one shot behind.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. PT (8 a.m. MT) on Tuesday and live scoring is available on BirdieFire.com.
