Orange and Black Swim Meet
Osborn Aquatic Complex
Sept. 26 | 11 a.m. PT
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team looks to prepare for its 2015-16 season as the Beavers are set to hold the Orange and Black swim meet this Saturday at the Osborn Aquatic Complex at 11 a.m. PT.
The intrasquad meet held at Osborn will feature evenly matched Orange and Black squads and will be led by Sammy Harrison and Andrea Young, respectively, who were elected team captains by their teammates. Harrison, who is serving her third year as a team captain, will lead the Orange team, while Young, a first-year captain, will head the Black team.
“This meet is important to us because it gives us a chance to see where everybody's at and what kinds of changes we might need to make in our training,” Oregon State head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “It also allows us to see the freshmen and see how they're going to fit into the schedule and into each meet, so that makes this a very important meet.”
The returners from last season are headlined by Harrison, who placed seventh nationally in the 1,650 last season as part of an All-American year. Notably, senior Amani Amr has the No. 4 200 backstroke and No. 6 100 backstroke times in program history, while junior Czsarina Isleta holds the seventh-fastest 200 breaststroke and eighth-fastest 100 breaststroke times in school history.
Joining 21 returners from last season are four newcomers – Alyssa Bennett, Lauren Hunter, Megan Lam and MacKenzie Settelmeyer – to bring the total to 25 athletes for the 2015-16 edition of the Beavers' swim team.
“The freshmen are coming in with some very nice times, so they'll have an impact immediately,” Liebowitz said. “We're looking to see what that impact is going to be so we can start thinking about racing at Arizona State.”
Following the scrimmage, the Oregon State swimming team will begin its 2015-16 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Beavers host Arizona State for a dual meet at the Osborn Aquatic Complex. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. PT.
