AURORA, Ore. – The Oregon State women's golf team set a school record on Tuesday, as three golfers placed in the top 10, to help the Beavers finish in second place at the 15-team Rose City Collegiate.
Oregon State shot a 9-over 873 at the two-day, 54-hole tournament to set the three-round program record. The previous record was a 10-over 874 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in 2013 and 2014.
The Beavers fired a 1-over 289 at the par-72, 6,057-yard Langdon Farms Golf Club on Tuesday to finish the tourney with a 9-over 294-290-289--873 to finish second by only two strokes. San Francisco won the team title with a 7-over 285-296-290--871.
The 1-over 289 by the Beavers equals the fourth-lowest single-round score in school history.
Sophomore Haley Nist had her best tournament as a Beaver, finishing in a tie for third place, while freshman Olivia Benzin finished in seventh place and senior Chelsea Saelee was ninth.
“The Beavers played with a lot of passion and pride today,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “Haley and Olivia had great rounds and showed they are great competitors. We look forward to getting back to Corvallis and preparing for our next event at Washington.”
Nist followed up a career-best 1-under 71 on Monday with a 3-under 69 in the final round to post her best finish as a collegian with a 2-under 74-71-69--214. Her previous best finish was a tie for ninth place at the Oregon State Invitational last season.
Benzin continued a strong start to her collegiate career with a 1-under 73-72-70--215. The 2-under 70 in the final round was the lowest round of Benzin's young career.
It's just the eighth time in school history someone has finished a three-round tournament in red figures.
