
Oregon State Swimming Wins Four Events at Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho – Senior Sammy Harrison won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events for the second-straight day while Amani Amr won the 100-yard backstroke and Andrea Young won the 200-yard IM to combine for wins in four events for the Oregon State swimming team at Idaho on Saturday afternoon at the UI Swim Center.
Harrison clocked a time of 10:22.83 to win the first individual event of the meet, the 1,000-yard freestyle, by over 12 seconds. The senior picked up her second win of the meet with a time of 5:08.37 in the 500-yard freestyle by a margin of just over two seconds.
The Henderson, Nev. native also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (53.19), in which she was closely followed by Constance Toulemonde (53.22) and Anni Hecker (53.41).
Amr won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.56, while Young accounted for the Beavers' fourth win of the day with a time of 2:11.27 in the 200-yard IM. Young just edged out Megan Lam in the event, who touched the wall less than three tenths of a second later (2:11.54).
Despite four victories for Oregon State on Saturday, the Beavers fell at Idaho by a score of 188-106.
Notably, Oregon State received second-place finishes in both relay events. Amr, Czsarina Isleta, Young and Claire McLaggan clocked a time of 1:47.86 in the 200-yard medley relay. Toulemonde, Hecker, Sophie MacEwan and McLaggan combined to finish the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.33.
One of the Oregon State's most successful individual events on Saturday was the 200-yard butterfly, where the Beavers finished two-three-four. Lam placed second with a time of 2:08.55, while Brooke Meyer placed third (2:10.13) and Jesikah Cavanaugh placed fourth (2:13.41).
Rounding out the top events for Oregon State on Saturday were the 100-yard butterfly, in which Toulemonde placed second (58.44) and Meyer placed third (59.50), as well as the breaststroke events, as Corrine Shigeta placed second in the 200 (2:22.55) and third in the 100 (1:05.94). Toulemonde rounded out a solid day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.66).
Following this weekend's action, the Oregon State swimming team is set to return to the pool for its final meet of the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 30, when the Beavers return to the state of Idaho for a dual meet at Boise State. The meet is set to be held at the Boise West YMCA.
