Beavers Ready For Saturday’s Final Round
March 31, 2017 | Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon State men's golf team battled through a windy day on The Farm in the second round of The Goodwin on Friday.
The Beavers sit in 15th place through 36 holes after posting a 34-over 289-305--594 at the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"The conditions were very tough today and for nine holes we battled through it pretty well," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "The round seemed to change when we reached the par-4, 480-yard second playing into the wind. We hit a couple of loose tee shots and then seemed to lose our confidence.
"We have to be able to battle through adversity and turn our 5 and 6 over rounds into 2 and 4 over in order to really compete at a high level.
"Tomorrow is a big day for our team. We need to respond and play like we have been for the last month."
Senior Kevin Murphy continues to lead the Beavers and is tied for 25th place with a 5-over 70-75--145. Sophomore Trevor Yu is tied for 55th with a 9-over 73-76--149, while junior Jonas Liebich and freshman Shawn Lu are tied for 62nd with each shooting a 10-over 150.
No. 12 and host Stanford holds the team lead with a 4-over 564, while No. 1 USC is second with a 5-over 565 and No. 15 UNLV is third with a 13-over 573.
Only six golfers in the 126-player field are under par through 36 holes, led by Rhett Rasmussesn of BYU with a 4-under 72-64--136.
