
Meet the 2019 Commit - Haley Mayhew

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State swimming welcomes the newest commit to Beaver Nation for the 2019 season, Haley Mayhew. Mayhew hails from Tucson, Ariz. and specializes in the breaststroke, freestyle and IM. Get to know a little more about the newest signee below:
Where do you go to high school?
I go to high school at Ironwood Ridge in Tuscon, Ariz.
What are your parents' names?
My mom's name is Amy Slade, and my dad is Craig Mayhew. My step-mom's name is Heather Kaylor Mayhew, and my step-dad is Justin Slade.
Do you have any siblings?
I have one sister, Mallory. I also have two step-brothers, Ashton Kaylor and Dylan Osborn.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
I felt I could achieve both my academic and athletic goals at OSU.
What do you intend to study at Oregon State?
While here, I intend to pursue a degree in animal sciences.
What events do you swim, and what are you top times?
My top times in each of my events are:
200 IM – 2:04.00, 100 Breast – 1:04.44, 200 Breast – 2:15.54, 200 Free – 1:51.72
Name some of your high school achievements.
I was chosen as the Most Valuable Player and named captain of the swim team. I also earned All-American consideration.
Did you swim for any club teams?
I swam for the Fast Swim Club from 2008 to 2018. I currently swim for the Aquabears Swim Club.
What is your first memory in the pool?
My first memory in the pool was when I realized I could swim the breaststroke.
What do you enjoy doing away from the pool?
I love working on my art. I also played the piano for 10 years.
What do you enjoy most about swimming?
Swimming really helps relieve my stress.
What is your biggest athletic thrill to date?
My biggest thrill was when I swam at the Arizona Long Course State Championship in 2016. I hope to do this again in 2018.
