
Meet the 2019 Commit - Maya Knutson

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State swimming welcomes another commit to Beaver Nation for the 2019 season, Maya Knutson. Knutson hails from Boise, Idaho and specializes in the freestyle. Get to know a little more about the newest signee below:
Where do you go to high school?
I go to Centennial High School in Boise, Idaho.
What are your parents' names?
My mom's name is Amy, and my dad's name is James.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have two siblings, Kenzie and Owen.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
I fell in love with the campus immediately! The coaches and girls were all so welcoming and friendly. I also love the focus and vision of the program itself.
What do you intend to study at Oregon State?
I intent to pursue a degree in environmental science.
What events do you swim, and what are you top times?
My top times in my freestyle events are:
800 Free – 9:04.43, 400 Free – 4:24.47, and 200 Free – 1:52.30
Name some of your high school achievements.
One of my high school achievements was that I was named the Centennial High School Team Captain and earned the Most Valuable Player Award. I was also a member of National Honors Society, the CHS Environmental Club President and on the CHS Varsity Speech and Debate team.
Did you swim for any club teams?
I swam for the Boise YMCA Swim Team where I was a YMCA National Championship Qualifier.
What is your first memory in the pool?
My first memory in the pool was splashing around in my family pool at my first childhood home.
What do you enjoy doing away from the pool?
I enjoy going to concerts, running, hanging out with my friends and any water sport.
What do you enjoy most about swimming?
One of the things I enjoy about swimming is that it allows me to reach my goals. I also enjoy being a part of a team and staying active.
What is your biggest athletic thrill to date?
My biggest thrill was when I won my events at state!
