Get to Know Chloe Bowman
December 10, 2018 | Women's Swimming
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Welcome to the eighth installment of our series introducing the newcomers to the 2018-19 swim team. This week we're featuring Chloe Bowman. She is a freshman hailing from Corvallis, Ore.
What are you looking forward to most about swimming at Oregon State?
Going into my first year at Oregon State I'm looking forward a multitude of things, one being a new team environment. From what I have experienced in the short few months, the team here has a much more unified aspect than the teams I was on in high school. I always felt pulled between my high school team and my club team because they occurred at the same time in the winter. For this reason, I am excited to be able to focus on one team this year.
How do you spend your time outside of the pool?
Outside of the pool, I spend lots of time with family and friends. I love going on road trips to hike or to swim spots. I also enjoy photography and sculpture.
What is your first memory of being in the pool?
My first memory of being in the pool is from when I took swim lessons at the YMCA. My teacher would always get annoyed at me because I wanted to be under the water, so I would put my ears under the water and he would say a phase or give instructions. Then I would have to repeat whatever he said. He was always so impressed that I could actually recall what he said.
Who is your role model?
I would say that I don't have one particular role model. I think I look up to a lot of different people. These people include my mom and my dad, but also famous people like Jorja Smith and Rihanna. I think I look up to them because they are strong women who are unapologetically themselves.
Do you have any pre-meet superstitions?
I don't have any pre-meet superstitions, but I do have pre-race ones. I have to crack all the knuckles in my hands and feet before I swim, do certain stretches, and splash myself with water before I get on the block.
What other sports did you play growing up?
I played a lot of different sports growing up. The main one I played besides swimming was soccer. I only did AYSO soccer, but it was also a lot of fun because not many of my school friends did swim, but many do them played soccer.
What are you planning on studying?
I plan on studying biochemistry and molecular biology and then continuing on to medical school.
What is one hidden talent you have?
I don't have any hidden talents.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
The most likely artist to be playing on my phone is Jorja Smith or Rihanna.
What is your favorite TV show?
My favorite TV show is "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
What actress would play you in a movie?
The actress that would play me in a movie would be Natalie Portman.
Oregon State will be back in action at San Diego State University on December 31.
