Men’s Golf Makes Big Move On Second Day In California
February 22, 2022 | Men's Golf
LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Oregon State men's golf team moved up eight spots in the overall team standings Tuesday at The Prestige. The Beavers stand in second place in the 24-team tournament after nearly two full rounds at the par-71, 7,100-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West.
Due to high winds, part of the Beavers' second day of action was suspended. OSU was one of a few teams that was unable to complete 18 holes on Tuesday. But what OSU was able to finish vaulted them up the leaderboard.
Overall, OSU is at 22-over par, trailing only host UC Davis, which leads the tournament at 14-over. The Beavers hold a two-shot lead over TCU, which was also unable to complete its second round on Tuesday.
The Beavers tied for the second-best second day score at plus-9. Carson Barry maintained his team lead with another day at par through 12 holes. He birdied the par-4 sixth hole and par-5 12th. He jumped from a tie for ninth into third with one day left.
Mateo Fuenmayor also had a big day for the Beavers, vaulting from a tie for 53rd to a tie for fifth. He birdied the par-4 fifth hole and the 12th as well to finish the shortened day at 2-under.
