Beavers Battle Cougars to a Draw
October 26, 2023 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team battled Washington State to a 2-2 draw in a back-and-forth match Thursday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Beavers led twice in the game, once in each half, but on both occasions the Cougars were able to equalize.
McKenna Martinez netted her sixth goal of the season, and the 28th of her collegiate career as she moved into a tie with Chelsea Buckland for fourth in program history. Megin Turi recorded the second Oregon State goal, the first tally of her OSU career.
The Beavers jumped on the front-foot early on, as Carly Carraher had a shot blocked from a dangerous position within the first five minutes of the game. Martinez put the Beavers on the board in the 30th minute, as she took a beautiful 40-yard pass over the top from Amaya Bautista and slotted it past the Cougar goalkeeper.
Washington State answered in the 35th to level the score.
Martinez forced another stop late in the opening half, but the teams headed to the break even at one.
Oregon State retook the lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Turi capitalized on a loose ball in the box to find the back of the net. The Cougars equalized in the 78th minute.
Both teams created scoring chances over the final 10 minutes of play, but neither was able to break the deadlock as the match ended in a draw.
Hailey Coll made a season-high 11 saves in the contest, including a number of impressive stops.
The Beavers will remain at home Sunday for a matchup with Washington.
