Johnson, Lake Lead OSU’s Men’s Golf On First Day In Bandon
March 12, 2023 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Rylan Johnson and Jackson Lake each finished with a 2-over 74 to pace the Oregon State men's golf team on the first day of action at the Bandon Dunes Championship Sunday.
The Beavers, as a team, finished third in the 18-team field, finishing with a 12-over 300 at the par-72, 6,676 Bandon Dunes Course. OSU was third in the field with 18 birdies and first overall on par-5 holes, at 4-under.
"It was a solid day from our guys," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "They played some really good golf for the majority of the day in what turned out to be some extremely windy conditions. The 16th got the best of us; into the 20/30 mph wind, but it got the best of everyone for the most part.
"I'm excited to see how we continue to compete the next two days."
Lake and Johnson both finished with three birdies on the day, just one shy of team leader Carson Barry. Johnson posted all three of his on the front nine, including on the par-3 fifth hole. Two of Lake's three came on the back nine; two of his three were on par-5 holes, at nine and 18.
The two are tied for eighth entering the tournament's second day.
Barry was close behind, tying for 16th via a 3-over 75. He birdied on back-to-back holes – the fifth and sixth – as well as the 10th and 18th.
