March 14, 2023 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Jackson Lake shot a 1-over 145 over two days at the Bandon Dunes Championship to pace the Oregon State men's golf team to a tie for second at the 36-hole event on Tuesday.
The Beavers shot a 12-over 588 over the event – which was shortened due to rain on Monday – tying with Utah. Lake led OSU with a tie for eighth in the individual field.
"Overall, there's a lot of positives to take from putting ourselves in this position," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "This team hasn't been in a final group or had a chance to win a tourney this seas and and we will learn from this and continue to improve as the season goes on.
"Jackson has worked very hard the last few weeks to get his game back to where he knows it should be and it's great to see it pay off. Now, I Look forward to heading to Eugene in a couple weeks."
Lake shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to finish with the 1-over tally. He birdied five holes on Tuesday to tally eight overall and his tie for eighth is his fifth career top-10 finish and first since last season.
Lake was backed by both Rylan Johnson and Nolan Thoroughgood, who each tied for 16th with a 3-over 147. Thoroughgood had the best round for the Beavers on Tuesday, posting a 2-under 70, which included two birdies and just one bogey. Johnson, meanwhile, was one over par on Tuesday and finished with one birdie on Tuesday.
For Thoroughgood, it was his best finish since taking eighth in Seattle in 2020-21. Johnson's tie for 16th one ups his finish at the Oregon State Invitational in October, then the best mark in his young collegiate career.
Carson Barry, Sean Kato and Mateo Fuenmayor rounded out the Oregon State contingent. Barry tied for 34th with a 6-over 150. He tallied a 3-over 75 in both rounds.
Kato, who competed as an individual, ended in a tie for 49th via an 8-over 152. He finished with a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Fuenmayor, meanwhile, tied for 63rd at 10-over 154. He was 2-over on Tuesday, ending with two birdies.
