May 17, 2023 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oregon State men's golf team finished the NCAA Las Vegas Regional Wednesday, posting a 23-under overall team score, one of the best marks in school history.
The Beavers' season, however, comes to a close as Oregon State finished in a tie for 10th place at the regional. Oregon State's team score of 23-under over three rounds ties for the fifth-best finish in the school's history. It's the second-best mark in OSU's NCAA postseason history, two strokes shy of the Beavers' 25-under mark at the 2007 NCAA West Regional.
OSU, as a team, posted a 3-under 285 team score in the final round of the event.
"The ending to a season always feels like you are headed to a funeral," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "It's tough to have it come to an end early but when you take a second to look back at where we were in February following the Prestige, Noah (Goldman) and I are really proud of this group and the effort they gave to get us to the post-season.
"I'd like to thank Carson (Barry), Nolan (Thoroughgood) and Sean (Kato) for all of the effort they have given to OSU for the last five years. They have competed in the classroom, on the golf course, and really helped create a team culture that cares about everyone.
Rylan Johnson paced the Beavers over the three-day event, finishing in a tie for 29th. He shot a 2-over 74 over the final 18 holes, and finished the three-day event with 14 birdies
Barry, Mateo Fuenmayor and Jackson Lake all finished at 1-under 215 over 54 holes to tie for 49th. Lake had the strongest end to the trip, shooting a 4-under 68 on Wednesday. He made 12 birdies on the trip, with six Wednesday, including four on the back nine.
Thoroughgood finished two rounds at the event after entering as a substitute Tuesday. The regional was his final collegiate appearance and he finished it strong, posting a 4-under 68 Wednesday, just a day after posting a 3-under 69. He ended the trip at 7-under.
"I'm so proud of the way Nolan finished off his college career," Reehoorn said. "He really did some great things for our team this spring. He was set to make sure he gave everything he could to help this team, and he did it."
Barry, also making his final collegiate appearance, ended the three-day event with a 1-under 215. He completed his final round with a 3-over 75, posting four birdies. He finished with 12 over the 54 holes.
