Hunter Claims Pac-12 Freshman of the Week
January 29, 2024 | General
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The weekend of Donovyn Hunter continues.
The freshman from Medford, Oregon earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors on Monday after posting back-to-back career-highs in scoring as well as her first double-double in wins over two top-20 foes.
Hunter opened the weekend with 16 points, four assists and two steals against the Buffaloes. She had the game's decisive early run with six straight points to get the Beavs back into the game when they were down 10. Hunter also helped the Beavers contain one of the nation's best point guards in Colorado's Jaylyn Sherrod.
The freshman then posted 17 points, 10 assists, two blocks and two steals against Utah on Sunday. The performance was Oregon State's 27th points-assists double-double and the first by a freshman since Boky Vidic in 1994.
The point guard facilitated as the team shot 69.4 percent from the field, nearly becoming just the second team since 1999-00 to shoot 70 percent or better against a ranked opponent. With Hunter at the helm, OSU made 65 percent of its threes and multiple players – Lily Hansford and Raegan Beers – had perfect shooting days from the floor.
Hunter and the Beavers head to Eugene this weekend for a rematch with Oregon. The Ducks and Beavs square off at 4 p.m. on Pac-12 Oregon.
Tickets for OSU's four remaining home games – three of which are against teams currently ranked in the top-20 - are available at beavertickets.com
