Eyre Leads Beavers On Final Day Of Play At The Williams Cup
October 22, 2024 | Men's Golf
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Brandon Eyre shot a 1-under 71 in the final round of action Tuesday to pace Oregon State over the final 18 holes at The Williams Cup.
Eyre led the Beavers overall with a 1-over 215 as Oregon State took an eighth-place finish at the event. He tallied 11 birdies at the event, including five in the last round of play. The senior tied for 14th among 75 competitors at the event.
The finish was the highest of the year for Eyre.
"Overall I feel like we did a lot of really good things today and this week," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "Unfortunately we didn't get a complete team performance in round two.
"It's never easy to travel across the country, play a course for the first time, and on a different grass than we ever see, and also have it be the most difficult course we will see all year. I'm really happy for Brandon. This is one of the best events he has had in a long time. He's worked really hard to get his game back to a point where he can compete with some of the best players in the country."
Collin Hodgkinson tied for 26th, finishing at 5-over 221. He had his best round of the event, finishing with a 1-under 71 which included five birdies, including three on the front nine. He ended the trip with nine overall. Hodgkinson now has six rounds under par in four events this year.
Stanley Lin also ended the event with nine birdies, posting three on Tuesday. He was one stroke behind Hodgkinson, taking a tie for 35th. Lin competed in his third event of the year, and after posting a 1-under 71 to open the event, has three rounds under par in 2024.
Rylan Johnson posted an 8-over 224 to place in a tie for 45th. He ended Tuesday's action with a 2-over 74.
Bradley Smolinski shot a 3-over 75 over the final 18 holes and ended the trip to North Carolina with a 15-over 231, tying for 68th.
Oregon State closes out its fall slate when competing in The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate in Carmel, Calif. The two-day event, hosted by Cal Poly, starts Monday.
