Hester, Rumel Named First Team All-WCC
December 02, 2024 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – A pair of Oregon State volleyball players – Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel – were named First Team All-West Coast Conference following the 2024 season, the league announced this afternoon.
Hester, a senior opposite hitter, paced the Oregon State offense in kills (340) while being among the leaders in digs with 105 on the season. The Falmouth, Maine, native finished the season with the eighth-most kills in the league. Her 25-kill performance – a career-high – against Gonzaga was among the best single-match outings in the league, proving to be the fourth-most in a WCC match. In a reverse-sweep win over San Francisco last month, she turned in a match-leading 19 to lead the charge for the comeback victory. On 18 occasions, she put up double-figures in kills including 16 in four of five matches played.
Rumel, a junior outside hitter, proved to be a versatile piece for Oregon State this season. The Tucson, Ariz., product found herself in the top five of multiple offensive categories: kills (second - 333), assists (fifth - 16), aces (fifth - 17) and a pair of defensive stats: third in digs (189) and fourth in blocks with 48.0. She tallied 333 kills on the campaign, including a career-best 21 in August and following it with 20 in a sweep in October. Rumel coupled the 21 kills in the opener with a dozen digs for her first four double-doubles. For the second time in as many years, Rumel played in every set for the Beavers.
Hester and Rumel are the first all-league selections for Oregon State in the Lindsey Behonick era. They also mark the first pair to garner all-league honors at Oregon State since the 1990 season.
