Newman Headlines Three Beavers Taken in MLS SuperDraft
December 20, 2024 | Men's Soccer
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Three Oregon State men's soccer players were selected in Friday's Major League Soccer SuperDraft, headlined by 11th overall pick Enzo Newman. Newman was selected by FC Dallas, and was followed later in the first round by Sergi Solans, who was chosen 30th overall by Real Salt Lake. Arnau Farnos rounded out the day, going to NYCFC with the 24th pick of the third round (84th overall).
This marks the first time in program history that Oregon State has had multiple first round picks in the same MLS Draft, and the second-straight season the Beavers have had three players selected. Overall, OSU has now had multiple players selected in the same draft class six times.
Newman started every match of the 2024 season and amassed six assists, on his way to All-WCC Second Team honors. A consistent feature at right back, he provided both solid defense and a consistent attacking threat. During the 2023 campaign, Newman made nine starts including all five matches the Beavers played in their run to the College Cup. Newman took part in the MLS College Showcase last week. He will join Logan Farrington at FC Dallas, after the forward was selected with the No. 3 overall pick last season.
Solans had one of the best offensive seasons in program history, earning WCC Offensive Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors. His 14 goals is tied for the fifth-highest single-season total in program history, and his 31 points are the sixth-most by a Beaver in a single year. Solans finished the year seventh in the nation in total goals.
Farnos was chosen as the WCC Midfielder of the Year and finished the year second in the conference in both goals with nine and points with 21. Overall Farnos made 39 starts in 43 appearances for the Beavers.
As a team, the Beavers made the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven years. Oregon State finished the season 10-5-1.
The 2025 Major League Soccer season is slated to begin in February.
