PULLMAN, Wash. – Zachary Miller shot a 63 in the third and final round, tying an Oregon State single-round record for fewest strokes to pace the Beavers at the Palouse Collegiate on Wednesday.
Â
Miller paced the Beavers, who ended the trip to Pullman by shooting a 28-under 824, an Oregon State team record.
Â
Miller posted nine birdies in his third and final round at the Collegiate, held at the par-71, 7,302-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Course. Only two other Beavers had shot 63 in a round, both 9-under: Alex Moore at the 2011 Oregon Duck Invitational and Jonas Liebich at the 2016 Amer Ari Invitational.
Â
Miller's 8-under, meanwhile, tied with Calum Hill (2016 Alister McKenzie Invitational) and Tim Mickelson (2000 Pac-10 Championship) for the third-best single round in OSU history.
Â
The Beavers' team mark, meanwhile, surpasses OSU's 27-under 825 at the 2010 Alister McKenzie Invitational. Miller's 8-under highlighted the day, while Bradley Smolinski finished with a 3-under 68 and Brandon Eyre was at a 2-under 69.
"I'm excited about the way the guys came to compete today," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "They knew it was an important round to get the season started with some positive momentum and they brought it. Zach brings great energy, confidence, and a bit of swagger. His belief in himself is infectious with the rest of the team."
Â
Miller finished the Collegiate third with an 11-under 202. He was followed closely by Collin Hodgkinson, who took seventh with a 10-under 203.
Â
Smolinski, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot an 8-under 205, taking 12th.
"In his first event at OSU Bradley showed some great resilience," Reehoorn said. "Started with a couple of bogeys, even made a double on 17 today and responded immediately with 3 birdies in a row. We've got some stuff we definitely need to keep getting better at, but this was a nice way to begin."
Â
Eyre and Rylan Johnson both finished 68th, shooting 4-over 217 each.
Â
Stanley Lin competed as an individual. He shot a 3-under 68 Wednesday ended the trip tied for 38th with a 1-under 212.
