Beaver Women’s Rowing Picked to Win WCC
February 27, 2025 | Women's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women's rowing was picked first in the West Coast Conference Preseason Coaches poll, the conference office announced on Thursday.
The Beavers, who enter their first spring under Head Coach Michael Eichler, are coming off a 2024 season that ended in a pair of fourth place finishes in the 1V8+ and 2V8+ at the Pac-12 Championships, which came against a field that featured then-ranked No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 California, No. 8 Washington and No. 17 Washington State.
This fall, the varsity eights also won a race at the Head of the Spokane.
As part of the release, four Beaver student-athletes were also recognized on the Rowing Preseason Team: Giulia Clerici, Charlotte Lightfoot, Rhi Loughnan and Annelise Norkitis.
Clerici, who won a silver medal with Team Italy at this past summer's World Championships, stroked the varsity eights in all five regattas last spring, including the Beavers' fourth place finish at the Pac-12 Championships.
Lightfoot, now a sophomore, competed in all five spring regattas last year, sitting in the bow seat during a season-opening victory over Washington State and Miami before competing with the second eights for the remaining four races.
Loughnan, selected to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District team in 2024, raced in the five seat for the 1V8+ boat in all five spring regattas last spring, helping the Beavers to a trio of top-three finishes at regattas hosted by Ohio State, Virginia and at home at the Dexter Lake Invite.
Norkitis is now in her fourth season as a Beaver and has several race wins under her belt. After competing with the third eights as a freshman, the Portland, Ore., native won a pair of races with the varsity eights during her sophomore season, and last year was victorious with the 1V4+ boat at the Dexter Lake Invite; she moved to the first eights for Oregon State's fourth place finish at the Pac-12 Championships.
Oregon State women's rowing will open its regular season next week, sending boats to both the Husky Open and PLU Invitational on March 8.
