March 31, 2025 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – Wicks-Street Head Coach Jarred Brookins announced Tuesday that a pair of program alums have been added to the Oregon State men's soccer coaching staff, as Adrian Molina-Diaz and Matt Bersano will serve as assistant coaches.
"I'm thrilled to elevate Adrian, and welcome Matt back to Corvallis," Brookins said. "Matt returns to Oregon State after a substantial tenure in MLS and will offer unique perspective to many of our players that have similar aspirations. His love for Oregon State is evident and his passion for the program paired with his unique experience will benefit not only our goalkeeping core but our entire roster.
"Adrian has been a vital member of our staff and a big part of our success these past two seasons. He has established himself as an elite recruiter and develops meaningful personal connections with our players. He is more than ready to step into this new role and I'm excited to see his continued impact on the program."
Bersano, who was a goalkeeper for the Beavers from 2011-2014, moves into full-time coaching after a nine-year professional career, primarily in Major League Soccer. Most recently, Bersano spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Austin FC. Prior to that, he was a part of the San Jose Earthquakes organization, with his run there spanning 2017-22. His professional career also featured stops at the Seattle Sounders and Reno 1868 FC.
Bersano has amassed significant coaching experience during his career, serving as an assistant coach at Southwestern University in 2023. He was also a Volunteer Assistant for UC Santa Cruz in 2021 and operated as a player-coach for Reno 1868 FC in the USL Championship from 2017-19.
During his career with Oregon State, Bersano was a two-time All-Pac-12 honoree and a four-time All-Academic selection. His name remains heavily featured in the Oregon State record books, as he holds the program's single-season mark for saves and is among the top five in program history for career saves, shutouts and goals against average.
Bersano graduated from Oregon State with a B.A. in Speech Communication. He then went on to get his MBA in Sports Management at Southern New Hampshire University
Molina-Diaz has been part of the Oregon State coaching staff the last two seasons, helping guide the Beavers to two of the best years in program history - making the NCAA Tournament in both campaigns. Oregon State made its first ever run to the College Cup in 2023, going 11-6-5 on the year, and winning four NCAA Tournament games before falling to Notre Dame in the semi-finals. Oregon State ended the season ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, the highest end-of-season mark in program history.
The team results have been matched by individual honors, as four Beavers earned All-America recognition during Molina-Diaz' two years on the staff. Seven players earned All-Region honors over that span and six Oregon State players were selected in the MLS SuperDraft - headlined by first round selections Logan Farrington (No. 3 overall). Enzo Newman (No. 11) and Sergi Solans (No. 30).
Molina-Diaz was a part of the 2021 and 2022 Oregon State teams. He was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2021, despite having his season cut short due to injury. The Alicante, Spain native scored six goals in the 12 matches he played during that campaign, tying him for fourth in the Pac-12.
Molina-Diaz made eight starts in the 2022 season, as he battled back to fitness.
