Raya Nakao Named WCC Golfer of the Month

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Raya Nakao was selected the West Coast Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for April, as announced by the conference office on Friday.

It's the second time this season an Oregon State golfer has received the award, as Kyra Ly was named the WCC Golfer of the Month for February.

Nakao, a sophomore from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, won her first career individual title when she defeated Eva Pett of San Francisco in a two-hole playoff to claim the WCC Championship at the Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Calif., on April 19.

It was the eighth Top 10 finish in Nakao's two-year Oregon State career with the previous best a tie for fourth place at the Nanea Invitational this past fall. Her 6-under 66 in the first round was a career best and equaled the course record at the Green Valley Country Club.

Nakao shot a 4-under 66-74-72—212 at the WCC Championship, the ninth time in her career she's finished in red figures at a 54-hole tournament.
