CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State Volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Award for the 2024-25 academic year, as announced on Monday morning by the organization.
The honor – first awarded in the 1992-93 academic year – honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average during the 2024-25 year.
Truly student-athletes, the team had a 3.54 grade point average for the school year and had six with cumulative GPAs at 3.5 or above, including three with a 3.9 or better. A pair of Beavers – Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel – capped their seasons with Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators while Rumel was named to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic Squad.
"Congratulations to this team on their academic achievement," said Behonick. "This award shows their commitment to academic excellence as well as their commitment to our team values."
The Beavers were one of just three WCC schools to garner the AVCA's award.
The honor is the second consecutive AVCA Academic Award for the program under the direction of Lindsey Behonick. It is the 13th in history for the program, and sixth since the 2014-15 academic year.
