
Rumel, Marrs Honored by WCC as Players of the Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Following a clean sweep of the ASICS Invitational, a pair of Beavers – Lauren Rumel and Alana Marrs - were honored by the West Coast Conference on Monday afternoon.
Rumel, named the Offensive Player of the Week, tallied 43 kills to just 10 errors in the 3-0 weekend while registering a .306 clip on 108 swings. She opened the weekend with a statement performance, collecting 19 kills (two shy of a career-best, set in a four-set match) to just three errors on 35 attempts for a .457 hitting rate. In the comeback win over UNLV on Saturday, her double-double from 17 kills and 10 digs helped secure the result.
The Tucson, Ariz., product also played a massive role on defense in the ASICS Invitational. She was one of four Beavers to register at least 22 digs, and finished two digs shy of two double-doubles.
Marrs, tabbed the Freshman of the Week, quickly showed the Gill Coliseum faithful what she can do on both sides of the game. The Ellensburg, Wash., native had a team-leading 10 block assists and spread them over the weekend's clutch moments, including four in each on Thursday and Saturday.
Offensively, Marrs totaled 21 kills in the final two matches of the weekend and dished an assist in the finale.
Rumel and Marrs are the first Oregon State players to win weekly awards in the WCC.
The Beavers – with Rumel and Marrs – will be back in action this week against Oregon (Sep. 18) and at Portland State (Sep. 20) to cap nonconference play.
