Roblez Shuts The Door, Oregon State Clinches The Series At UC Irvine
March 21, 2026 | Baseball
IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine was looking to take its first lead of the series in the eighth Saturday at Cicerone Field. The Anteaters loaded the bases and had no one out down by two.
Then stepped in Albert Roblez.
The senior right-hander got out of the bases-loaded jam thanks to an infield fly and a pair of strikeouts, then tossed a scoreless ninth to help Oregon State to a 5-3 win over UC Irvine, clinching the series for the Beavers.
OSU goes for the sweep Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
Roblez made his second career appearance at Cicerone Field, the first coming last season while a member of Long Beach State. He now has two saves at UC Irvine's home turf, going a combined five innings with eight strikeouts.
He now also has seven saves as a Beaver.
Roblez closed out an outing that saw the Beavers (16-5 overall) pull out to another 5-1 lead. Ryan VandenBrink doubled in a pair of runs in the first. The Anteaters (9-13) scored a solo run in the second before the Beavers plated a pair in the sixth on an RBI single by Tyler Inge and groundout by Adam Haight.
Josh Proctor launched his fourth home run of the season over the fence in left in the seventh to give OSU the four-run advantage. A key advantage after Landon Gaz homered in the seventh to cut the Beavers' lead to two.
A pair of walks by Noah Scott and Tanner Doubles and then a bunt single by the Anteaters' Frankie Carney gave UC Irvine a bases-loaded situation with no down. In stepped Roblez, who got Alonso Reyes to pop up and then got out of the jam after striking out Zach Fjelstad and Auggie Gutierrez.
Ethan Kleinschmit made his sixth start of the season for the Beavers, and was sharp through six innings of work. He struck out three – his first came in the fifth – while allowing one hit and an unearned run. He gave way to Scott in the seventh, who then combined with Roblez for eight strikeouts in the last three innings.
Proctor paced Oregon State offensively with three hits, including a double. Inge and Cooper Vance had two apiece.
Oregon State picked up two of its five runs on UC Irvine starter Ricky Ojeda, who went four full. He gave up five hits and struck out six to take the loss and drop to 1-3 on the year.
