Morris Shines In Series-Opening Win Over Cal Poly
April 10, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Trey Morris struck out a season-high eight as No. 7 Oregon State won a lightning delayed 6-3 series-opener over Cal Poly Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Morris came on in relief of Dax Whitney after a lightning and rain delay that lasted one hour and 45 minutes. Morris, with OSU down 2-1, proceeded to strike out his eight batters in 4 2/3 innings, limiting Cal Poly to a hit and a run for the win, his second of the season.
Morris was backed by Wyatt Queen, who struck out two in 1 1/3 innings, and Albert Roblez, who pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save of the season.
Easton Talt and Bryce Hubbard both homered for the Beavers (26-7), who overcame a two-run first inning by the Mustangs against Whitney. Bryson Glassco drove in a run on a double in the second, and AJ Singer knotted the game up with a single in the fifth off Cal Poly reliever Brady Estes.
Talt then jumped on the first pitch he saw from Estes in the sixth, and watched as Hubbard went deep for a solo blast two batters later.
Adam Haight, after a Cal Poly (18-14) home run in the seventh, gave the Beavers their final insurance run with a triple in the eighth.
Hubbard collected a career-high three hits while Talt, Singer and Glassco all had two.
Estes, who gave up four hits and three runs in 3 1/3 innings, took the loss, dropping to 3-1 on the year.
The teams continue the series with a 2:05 p.m. PT first pitch Saturday. Fans should note this is an earlier time than originally scheduled due to expected inclement weather later in the day.
