Raya Nakao In First Place At Leadership And Golf Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Raya Nakao is in first place after firing two sub-par scores to lead the Oregon State women's golf team at the Leadership and Golf Invitational on Monday.

The Beavers opened their 2026-27 season with a strong start, posting a 1-under 283-292—575 at the par-72, 6,022-yard Chambers Bay Golf Course to sit in third place in the 17-team field.

Tulsa holds the clubhouse lead after the first day with a 5-under 571 and Colorado is in second place with a 3-under 573.

The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at this link.

Nakao, a senior from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, carded a 4-under 68 in the morning and followed that with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon to give her a one-stroke lead over Nine Choe of UC Davis (5-under 139) and two-stroke advantage over Zoe Shamy of Tulsa and Maya McVey of Colorado (4-under 140).

The 6-under 138 by Nakao included five birdies in the first round and six in the second round. The 11 birdies were the most of any golfer in the 90-player field.

Nakao, who was voted to the 10-member WCC All-Conference Team each of the last two seasons, now has 38 rounds in red figures in her spectacular Oregon State career. Her 13 career Top 10 finishes entering this season are tied for the third most in Beaver history.

Kate Nakaoka, a sophomore from Mililani, Hawai'i, is tied for 10th place with a 1-under 68-75—143. She had an eagle, on the par-4, 246-yard 12th hole, and five birdies in the morning round to equal her best career with a 4-under 68.

Nakaoka first shot a 4-under 68 as a true freshman last season at the PING/ASU Invitational. Her best career finish is a tie for fourth place at the Molly Collegiate Invitational in Corvallis last fall. She had four Top 10 finishes last season.

True freshman Kate Ly began her collegiate career with a 1-over 73 and added a 2-over 74 in the second round that has her in a tie for 21st place with a 3-over 147. The sister of former Oregon State All-American Kyra Ly, Kate had six birdies in the two rounds and an eagle in the morning on the par-4, 246-yard 12th hole.

Senior Rebecca Kim is tied for 72nd place with an 11-over 74-81—155 and senior Kelly Hope is in 81st place with a 14-over 85-73—158.

Junior Clara Alevag, who is competing as an individual, finished the 36-hole day with a 7-over 75-76—151 to put her in a tie for 53rd place.
