UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Raya Nakao and Kate Nakaoka both recorded Top 10 finishes to lead the Oregon State women's golf team at the season-opening Leadership and Golf Invitational.

Nakao finished in a tie for third place, her 14th career Top 10 finish, and Nakaoka posted a tie for ninth place.

As a team, the Beavers finished in a tie for fourth place with an 11-over 283-292-300—875 at the par-72, 6,124-yard Chambers Bay Golf Course.

Nakao, a senior from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, fired a 4-under 68-70-74—212 to finish in a tie for third and only three strokes behind medalist Savannah de Bock of Eastern Michigan (7-under 209).

The 14th Top 10 finish of Nakao's career moved her into a tie for second in Oregon State history with Ellie Slama (2018-22). Kathleen Takaishi holds the program record with 16 Top 10 finishes during her playing days from 1995-99.

Nakao had 13 birdies over the three rounds, the fourth most in the 90-player field, and now has 38 career rounds in red figures in her three-plus years at Oregon State.

Nakaoka, a native of Mililani, Hawai'i, equaled her best college score in the first round, a 4-under 68, and finished in a tie for ninth place with an even-par 68-75-73—216.

Beginning her sophomore campaign, Nakaoka had an eagle and 10 birdies in the tournament. It's the fifth Top 10 finish of her career after recording an impressive four as a true freshman last season.

True freshman Kate Ly, who was making her collegiate debut, was steady throughout the two-day event with a 7-over 73-74-76—223 to finish in a tie for 31st place. She had an eagle in the first round and added nine birdies over the 54 holes.

Rebecca Kim finished with a 74-81-78—233 and Kelly Hope posted 85-73-77—235. The two seniors combined for 10 birdies.

Clara Alevag, who competed as an individual, finished in a tie for 64th place with a 14-over 75-77-78—230. She had six birdies in the tournament.

Eastern Michigan won the 17-team event by seven strokes with a 1-under 863.

The Beavers will return to action at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4 in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
