PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE: (1990-91)-- Tony launched his coaching career at
his alma mater, University of California at Santa Barbara, in 1990 as a student
assistant coach working with film exchange and post player development.
(1991-95)--Tony was hired as an assistant coach in 1991 at UCSB and his duties
were expanded to film exchange, perimeter player development, recruiting and
scouting. (1995-99)--Tony was given a promotion at USCB in 1995 and was named
offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Gauchos.
(1999-2000)--Tony was promoted once again in 1999 to associate head coach at UC
Santa Barbara, while maintaining the same responsibilities of offensive
coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Served under head coach Mark French.
PREP ATHLETIC CAREER: Tony participated in baseball, basketball and football
at Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, CA. He graduated from Grass Valley
in 1986.
COLLEGE ATHLETIC CAREER: Tony did not participate in intercollegiate athletics
while attending UC Santa Barbara.
EDUCATION: Graduated from Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, CA, 1986.
Tony attended the University of California at Santa Barbara from 1986-92 and
earned a B.A. in biological sciences in 1992.
PERSONAL: Tony was married to the former Theresa Bottlelsen on August 7, 1999.
Enjoys biking, hiking and most outdoor activities.
RECRUITING AREA: Western United States
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Tony earned the reputation as one of the top
assistant coaches in the country during his tenure at UC Santa Barbara. He
orchestrated the Gauchos offensive efforts and UCSB won the Big West
championship in 1999-2000 and hosted a first round NCAA Tournament site. UCSB
finished the campaign ranked ninth in the nation on the AP poll. Tony was
appointed offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 1995-96, and from
that point on the Gauchos had five consecutive 20-plus winning seasons and never
had less than 24 victories. Under Tony, the UCSB offense ranked between third
and seventh in the nation each year in team scoring. Blue Star Report, a
scouting service, ranked UCSB's recruiting class in the top 25 four times,
reaching #5 and #6 in 1998-99 and 1999-00, respectively. UCSB won Big West
titles in the years of 1991-92; 1992-93; 1995-96; 1996-97; 1997-98; 1998-99 and
1999-00.
