Day 3 -- Brent Brennan is Excited About His Wide Receivers
April 7, 2012
Corvallis, Ore. - Last April the biggest question mark on the team might have been at the wide receiver positions. There was the 20-point font question mark of James Rodgers' knee, followed by the status of Jordan Bishop's ankle. First-year assistant coach Brent Brennan, who would eventually even fall victim to the injury bug, had to piece together a unit in the spring that had few similarities to what it would look like for the 2011 season.
A year has certainly made a difference with this group, as it now is arguably Oregon State's most explosive wide receiver cast in years. Three-year letterman and 20-game starter Markus Wheaton is already in OSU's career top-10 for receptions (136) and nearly there for yards (1,750). Wheaton is joined by athletic senior Jordan Bishop, who is showing signs of a full recovery, as the most experienced players on the team. Senior Geno Munoz has also earned three letters.
There is a ton of promising young talent led by sophomore Brandin Cooks, who gives OSU a serious deep threat for quarterback Sean Mannion. Juniors Kevin Cummings and Micah Hatfield have made big strides and keep a close watch on Obum Gwacham, who spends part of the year clearing the bar in the high jump, and redshirt-freshman Richard Mullaney and junior Mitch Singler.
Coach Brennan was mic'd up today; look for the unique perspective from practice on this week's edition of Beavers All Access on Root Sports NW.
The returning cast combined for 156 receptions and 2,046 yards in 2011. The OSU video staff produced the following video and postpractice interviews with Coach Brennan.
