Last Game
Michael Conforto gunned down Aaron Payne at the plate in the ninth inning and Nick Rulli drove in the game winning run in the seventh to pace the Beavers to the 3-2 win over Oregon on Saturday. Conforto caught a sinking liner in left and threw out Payne, who was the game’s tying run. Rulli drove in his second career run on his first career hit when he hit a pinch hit double down the left field line. Dylan Davis got his first career win in the victory.
What’s Next?
So what has Dan Child done this season? The sophomore has started 15 of his 16 appearances and is 6-3 with an earned run average of 2.75. And this on the heels of a save Saturday in which he finished the game with 22 pitches in 1 2/3 innings of work.
A Couple Of Firsts
Two key players for the Beavers on Saturday picked up collegiate firsts. Nick Rulli, first off, drove in his second career run in the seventh on his first career hit, which went for a double. Dylan Davis, meanwhile, was the recipient of Rulli’s double as he picked up his first career win after getting out of the seventh with six pitches for one out.
Regular Season Finale
Sunday is, of course, the regular season finale for both teams. NCAA postseason sites will be announced at 12:30 p.m. via NCAA.com and the entire NCAA Regional field will be made public at 9 a.m. on ESPN.
Another Defensive Game
Oregon State’s team fielding percentage stands at a season-high .976 after Saturday’s victory. The Beavers have not committed an error in their last six games, which is good news as the team is 15-6 this season when that happens. OSU’s fielding percentage in Pac-12 games is an impressive .981.
Going For 38
The Beavers have a chance, with a win Sunday, to reach 38 regular season wins for the second consecutive season. Oregon State went 38-17 in the regular season last year.
Singles
• OSU is 15-0 this season when holding opponents to two runs or less.
• The Beavers have outscored Oregon, 40-24, at Goss Stadium since 2009. OSU is 8-1 in those nine games.
• OSU is 11-2 in Sunday games this season.
