CORVALLIS, Ore. -
Oregon State rowers Tina Vernazza and Chen Oshri have been invited to prestigious summer camps to train for the Under-23 World Championships July 11-15 on Lake Galve at Trakai, Lithuania.
Vernazza, a sophomore from Redwood City, Calif., has been invited to U.S. U23 Lightweight National Team Selection Camp at Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pa. The camp will focus on qualifying to the U23 World Championship Trials. Trial boats include lightweight women’s double sculls, lightweight women’s quadruple sculls and lightweight women’s single sculls divisions. It is the second straight summer Vernazza, who rowed in OSU’s Varsity 8 in the bow seat for most of the 2012 season, has spent training at a top-notch camp after participating at the USRowing U23 Lightweight Women’s Sculling Camp at the GMS Rowing Center in Milford, Conn. in 2011.
“Tina got her feet wet at last year’s camp and really should be a contender for a spot on the national team this year,” OSU head coach Emily Ford said. “She’s really got her sights set on making this team.”
Oshri, a freshman, will return to her native country of Israel to train for the U23 lightweight national team with the goal of competing at the U23 World Championships as well. Oshri, who enrolled at Oregon State in the spring, is currently sitting out a year due to NCAA compliance policies.
