Dustin Norman begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Oregon State men's soccer program.
Norman has previously had two NCAA Division I coaching stops, working on the sidelines at Houston Baptist University (2008-12) and Mercer University (2006-08).
In his time helping the Huskies restart the men's soccer program and transition to the NCAA Division I level, HBU totaled 26 wins and went 10-5-1 in conference play, making it all the way to the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) title game in 2010 and the semifinals a season ago. Norman coached 19 All-ASC selections, including 2010 ASC Rookie of the Year and NSCAA North Atlantic All-Region honoree, forward Kristopher Tyrpak, as well as eight members of ASC All-Academic teams.
Norman played an integral role in reviving men's soccer at the school in southwest Houston. HBU participated as an NAIA member from 1979-1990. The program was re-instituted in 2006 after a 15-year absence.
Last season, HBU went 2-2-0 in ASC action, making it all the way to the semifinals of the conference tournament. In 2010, the Huskies went undefeated in conference (3-0-1) before losing to host Adelphi in overtime of the ASC Championship. HBU swept the conference awards that season, as Lorne Cameron was Offensive Player of the Year and Chris Dodd was honored as Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2009, HBU players netted yet another haul of league awards, as five Huskies earned ASC All-Conference honors. In 2008, Norman helped the team go 4-1-1 in the final six games to finish the season 10-6-1 with a 3-1-0 mark in ASC play. HBU fell in a shootout to eventual champion Longwood in the semifinals of the ASC tournament.
Prior to Houston Baptist, Norman served two seasons on the staff at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
Norman was a highly decorated collegiate player for Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee where he earned his Bachelors in Business Administration in 2005. On the field he was a three-time All-Conference selection, leading his team to three Great South Atlantic Conference titles. He was a two-time MVP and had 36 career goals to go with 22 assists.
After finishing his career, he spent one season at Middle Georgia College in Cochran as the assistant coach for the men's and women's programs. He then moved on to Mercer where he finished his Master's in Business Administration.
