Last Game
A four-run third inning provided all the offense the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team needed Sunday in dispatching Utah, 4-1, at Goss Stadium. Beau Day highlighted Oregon State's four-run third with a two-run double. The Beavers found themselves down 1-0 in the second after a run-scoring single by Wyler Smith. Oregon State, however, tied the game in the third with a single off the bat of Ryan Barnes. Day then drove in the game-winning runs before being driven in by Jerad Casper.
He's Been BeauDaycious
Beau Day certainly was the story offensively during the Beavers' sweep of Utah. He came into the series with two hits on the year but ended the series with four runs batted in on the strength of six hits in seven at bats.
Great Streak For Starters
Matt Boyd, Andrew Moore and Ben Wetzler have been solid the last two weekends during Pac-12 Conference play. The trio has combined to throw 42 1/3 innings, allowing 23 hits, seven earned runs, 14 walks and striking out 36 en route to a 5-1 record. That's an earned run average of 1.49.
Barnes Pushing 10 Games
Ryan Barnes collected two hits in the series finale on Sunday, pushing his hit streak to 10 games. Barnes is 16-for-40 (.400) with seven runs, three runs batted in and two doubles during the streak. The streak is tied with a Dylan Davis 10-gamer for the longest by a Beaver this season.
RPI Remains No. 1
Oregon State has the nation's fourth-hardest schedule, which plays a large role in the Beavers maintaining the top spot in the unofficial RPI, according to warrennolan.com. Oregon State has a 20-6 record against teams ranked in the top 100 of the RPI. Only North Carolina (21) can claim more wins against top 100 teams.
Top Five Ranking
The rankings, meanwhile, find the Beavers in the top five for the 10th consecutive week this season. Baseball America has OSU at No. 5. The Beavers have been in Baseball America's top 25 for 15 consecutive weeks dating back to last season.
Singles
Oregon State enters the game with a 16-game win streak against Portland, second-most behind a 21-gamer from 1959-69.
OSU is hitting .299 in non-conference games this season while the club's staff has posted a 2.01 earned run average.
