Beavers will compete against 15 different schools during a two-day span on the East Coast
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s rowing team will make their first trip to the eastern time zone in nearly a year as it competes at the Clemson Invite this weekend in South Carolina.
The Beavers enter the weekend having not competed since last month’s Pac-12 Challenge (March 30-31), and will make their first appearance out east since their trip to the Michigan Invite, last April.
OSU has finished first in 11 out of the 20 total races it’s competed in this spring, including seven of its first eight. This weekend Head Coach Emily Ford’s crew will feature four boats on the water, including the first and second Varsity 8+’s as well as a Varsity 4+ and a Novice 8+.
“There is so much to be gained with this event this weekend,” Coach Ford said about her team’s upcoming trip. “We will have the chance to race 15 different schools over the course of the weekend, which is invaluable experience and a ton of fun.”
Oregon State’s first race will take place Saturday morning in the Varsity 8+ heats against Miami, Penn, Cornell, Duke, Tennessee and Michigan State. A second Varsity 8+ race will follow 20 minutes later against the same six schools.
“We will experience multi-lane racing for the first time this year which is always good preparation for the PAC-12 Championships,” Ford added. “It will also be a great measuring stick for our progress thus far. This will be racing at its best and most fun – we are really looking forward to it.”
Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ races later in the morning will close out the OSU women’s Saturday schedule before a Sunday slate that sees them on the water against Texas, Minnesota, Ohio State, UCLA and Central Florida in those same events.
Even though the Beavers will not race against the Tigers this weekend, this will be the second time this season they have seen the ACC school . The two hooked up at the Pac-12 Challenge last month, where all four OSU boats competing in the Clemson Invite Saturday and Sunday (V8+, 2V8+, V4+, N8+), also squared off against CU in California.
Race action from the Clemson Invite will be broadcast live on the Tigers’ official athletic website.
