OSU to race against a pair of nationally ranked opponents at Stanford, will feature four boats at Redwood Shores
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 20 ranked Oregon State men’s rowing team will be back on the water this weekend as it travels to sunny California to take part in the Stanford Invite at Redwood Shores.
The Beavers are fresh off their first home dual race of the season, where they rowed against No. 1 Washington during the Covered Bridge Regatta on Dexter Lake. This weekend OSU will feature four different boats that will be on the water for a total of 11 races in Redwood City, Calif.
“The Stanford Invitational is always a good mid-season gauge for us and Redwood Shores is a terrific environment for racing,” said OSU head coach Steve Todd. “We get to test ourselves against some great competition and see where we stack up.”
The Beavers’ test will come in the form of Orange Coast College, Santa Clara, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Wisconsin and California. OSU begins competition on Saturday morning, April 20 versus Orange Coast in the Varsity 8+, followed by a date with Santa Clara in the 2nd Varsity 8+ and then a Freshmen 8+ race with Orange Coast, who they already competed against in Lowell, Ore., last weekend.
Saturday afternoon, OSU will strictly race against the 11th ranked Badgers in same events and then continue competition Sunday morning with Varsity 8+, JV 8+ and Freshmen 8+ races versus Santa Clara and Cal.
Todd’s crew will conclude its racing schedule Sunday afternoon with dual races against host, No. 7 Stanford in the Varsity 8+, Freshmen 8+ and JV 8+ events. This weekend’s action will mark the second time this season Oregon State will go up against more than one nationally ranked program. The ‘Beavs raced Cal, Stanford, Penn and Gonzaga, who were all in the Top 25 at the San Diego Crew Classic, April 6-7.
“This weekend the competition from Orange Coast, Wisconsin, Santa Clara and Stanford will test the team’s endurance and toughness,” Todd added.
