Event will take place on Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore., and will feature Stanford, Washington State, San Diego and Syracuse
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s rowing team will make history this weekend on Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore., as it hosts the first ever Oregon State Classic.
The event, the first of its kind in program history, will take place on Saturday, April 27, and will feature two Pac-12 schools (Stanford and Washington State), an institution from the Big East (Syracuse) and the University of San Diego from the West Coast Conference.
“First of all, I have to send a huge thank you out to the folks from the Oregon Association of Rowers who have built this beautiful race course and who have so generously shared it with us,” said OSU Head Coach Emily Ford. “You don’t find many courses like it in the country and it’s one of only a couple on the west coast. The course has allowed us to attract a great field of competitors and we are excited to welcome them to our home.”
Racing action will begin on Dexter Lake at approximately 9:00 a.m. with the Varsity 4+ event. Races will continue throughout the morning until 11 a.m. when OSU’s 2nd Novice 8+ races against Washington State.
“These will be high caliber races,” Ford added. “Each of these schools has had some impressive results so far this year. We will have dual races in the morning and then all of the teams will line up together in the afternoon. It will give us a couple different types of racing scenarios and everyone will have the chance to compete with everyone else.”
The afternoon session will begin at 2 p.m., with the Novice 8+ race featuring the Oregon State and Washington State ‘A’ and ‘B’ boats. The day’s second session will wrap-up an hour later with the 3 p.m., Varsity 8+ race between all five schools.
Event information is available via the Oregon State Classic’s official page at /ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30800&ATCLID=208343784. Fans can also go to that page for final race results as soon as competition is completed.
