Pac-12 Championships - Live Scoring
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - David Fink and Brian Jung each shot a 3-over 143 during 36 holes of play to open the 2013 Pac-12 Championship on Monday and lift Oregon State into a tie for sixth place at the three-day, 72-hole tournament in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Beavers finished the long day of golf with a 30-over 368-362--730 at the par-70, 7,236-yard Los Angeles Country Club in the six-count-five format. Only 12 strokes separate the fourth through 11th spots in the 12-team field with 36 holes remaining over the next two days.
California, UCLA and Washington, ranked 1-3-4 respectively, have separated themselves from the field with the Golden Bears shooting a 5-under 338-357--695, the Bruins sitting with a 4-over 336-358--704 and the Huskies at a 9-over 349-360--709.
Fink, a junior from Kailua, Hawai'i, started on the 10th hole and was 5-over through nine holes before settling down to fire a 1-under 34 on his second nine. He continued the hot play in the afternoon round, as he once again dominated holes one through 10 to shoot the Beavers' lone sub-par round of the opening day with a 1-under 69.
Jung, a redshirt freshman from Coquitlam, British Columbia, shot a 2-over 72 in the morning that included two birdies and four bogeys. He went crazy in the afternoon with five birdies but took six bogeys to finish with a 1-over 71 and move him into a tie for 15th place with Fink.
Senior Nick Chianello was steady in both rounds on the difficult golf course as he posted a 4-over 74 with two birdies in the first round and a 3-over 73 with another two birds after the lunch break. Senior Nick Sherwood was equally as consistent with a 3-over 73 in the morning and a 4-over 74 in the afternoon. Both players are tied for 34th place.
Senior Matt Rawitzer is tied for 52nd with an 11-over 75-76--151, while sophomore Scott Kim is two strokes back and tied for 59th with a 13-over 78-75--153.
Max Homa of California set the course record with a 9-under 61 in the opening round and shot even-par in the afternoon to hold a three-stroke lead over his teammate, Michael Weaver, for the individual lead.
The Beavers will begin Tuesday's second round at 8 a.m. off the first hole and be paired with Stanford and Utah. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
