OSU Women's Soccer Concludes Successful Spring Season

April 29, 2013
Beavers played in five matches, working to improve in a variety of different areas for the fall
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s soccer team has finished competition during their spring season and is now looking forward to the fall. The Beavers played a total of five spring matches, three of which were at Lorenz Field in Corvallis.
Head Coach Linus Rhode’s team kicked off the spring slate the first weekend of April with a home contest against Trinity Western and then traveled to the Seattle area the following week with a match against the Seattle Sounders of the W League.
OSU then played two more home games the weekend of April 20-21, versus Portland on Saturday the 20th and Southern Oregon, Sunday the 21st. The Beavers wrapped up their spring schedule with a Civil War tilt against Oregon in Eugene this past weekend.
“One of the definite plusses for the spring was that we focused on our defending as a team, which is a looking a lot better,” Rhode said. “We also looked at different attacking shapes and ways to break opponents down in the final third, which is also a positive and taking shape for the fall.”
Rhode, who will be entering his sixth season in charge of the OSU program, also said that he was able to get the majority of his players significant playing time this spring, which provided him with a good basis for evaluations on most of them.
The team will now look toward fall 2013, when it begins play of its 26th season in program history. Rhode and his staff expect the upcoming regular season schedule to be released shortly after it is finalized.
The freshman class will join their OSU counterparts in the fall, when (D) Kathryn Baker, (MF/D) Annie Govig, (MF/F/D) Samantha Moultrie and (MF/F) Hannah Smith step foot on campus in August.
The Beavers finished 11-6-3 in 2012 and have averaged a total of 12 wins per year during Rhode’s previous five seasons as head coach.
