OSU Men's Rowers to Close out Season at IRA's in the Golden State

Team will make its return trip to IRA’s after a three-year layoff, four boats to compete in three day event
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men’s crew will wrap up its 2013 season at the IRA National Championships this weekend in Rancho Cordova, Calif. The Beavers will enter four boats in the competition, including the Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, Open 4+ and Varsity 4+.
“The IRA is a great opportunity to race all these crews we haven’t seen this year,” said OSU head coach Steve Todd.
Todd’s team is seeded No. 18 in the Varsity 8+ and No. 16 in the JV8+, while no seedings are compiled for the 4+ boats. The last time an OSU men’s team competed at IRA’s was in 2010, when they finished 17th on a course in Cherry Hill, N.J. Fast forward to 2013 and the team is rested and ready for their return to the prestigious event following a fourth place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, two weeks ago, held on the same Lake Natoma course.
“Our expectation at this time of year is to have our best performance; we came back from the Pac-12 Championships and went back to work,” Todd said. “I think that the last couple of weeks have paid off, and now it’s time to race!”
The IRA National Championships are scheduled to take place from Friday, May 31 – Sunday June 2 in NORCAL. A total of 150 boats from colleges and clubs across the nation will be taking part in the annual regatta.
